One party landed the bag limit easily and could have caught more of the fighters in the South River terri tory. The bass were big fellows, weighing up to four and five pounds each and if you have ever played a fresh water fish of that size on light tackle you wnow that there is plenty of action. The bag limit on fresh water black bass is eight fish. In Carteret County streams it is easy to catch your reel full of this species, almost any season of the year. Red Cross Roll Call Gets Underway Friday Starting on Friday (Armis tice Day) and continuing through Thanksgiving an ac tive campaign will be carri ed on in the Beaufort Chap ter area for new members and renewal of old members for the American Red Cross. It will be the annual roll call and membership drive. Mrs. M. E. Bloodgood who has served as membership chairman for several years will asain be in charge of the roll call this year. With a total of over 3,074 votes cast for him in Tuesday's Election he won over Wiley Lewis the Republican candi date with a majority of over 300. . . Holland deserves a loi of credit from the Democrat ic party in Carteret County. He has worked hard for the party, not .only in the 1938 elections but ever since he became of voting age. WILEY LEWIS, 25-year old Republican candidate for the office of Sheriff was de feated in General election on Tuesday but he took it on the chin and smiled broadly when he saw the excellent vote given himwhich did :oi trail so very far behind ihe winning candidate. 25 cf 26 precincts gave Lewis 2,731 votes as compared to 3,074 for Holland. As we go to press today the complete canvas of votes had not been made by the Board of Elec tions, but a clear concensus of how most of the precincts voted and the approximate majorities was obtained by The Beaufort News as the returns came in on Tuesday night. In next week's edition of The Beaufort News will be published a complete and official tabulated vote table of the Elec tions on Tuesday. The tabulated votu for the county officials which is uin on page 1 today is not of ficial but is approximately correct. Although the Democratic Parly of Carteret County under the lead ership of Irvin W. Davis saw vic tory for their candidates, the ma jorities were not so overwhelming Democratic ticket.
